Ah I sit at my computer waiting for my wife to come home from the university and relax from a night of searching for triathlon info and reading the boards. I feel a hundred percent better then I did Tuesday after my first post to my new blog. The training did one thing and that is make the recovery a lot less painful then I thought it would have been!

I had decided on what my next race was going to be (the Great Clermont Duathlon) and was telling my wife the exciting news when she asks me
“Does it have a swim portion?”
“No, you run 5k, then bike 40k, then run 10k!!” I say
“No swimming?”
“Ah… no Hon, no swimming…”
“You should do the Triathlon then it has swimming”
“Umm …”
“You need to focus on your swim”
“Umm…”
“If you do the Duathlon you will not focus on your swimming. Do the Triathlon.”

So I decided my next race is going to be the Great Clermont Triathlon! It will be held this April in Clermont Florida of course! (I make the best decisions don’t I?)

SWIM - 1.5K (.93 miles) in picturesque Lake Minneola. Projected water temperature: 68-74.
BIKE - 40K (24.8 miles) on a scenic gently rolling course.
RUN - 10K (6.2 miles) on an out and back course along Lake Minneola.

This is what the website has to say on the race anyways. If it has the same “gently rolling course” as the sprint tri’s then they need to work on their description!!

I am currently still working on my training schedule and also in the process of getting myself a new road/race bike. I currently have a mountain bike that is like 8 years old. I did all three Clermont sprint tri’s and all my bike training on it last year. Can’t wait to get a real road bike this year. I have been keeping my eye on Ebay and also going to a local shop to get fitted next Tuesday. Meanwhile this weekend I will start doing some swimming at the university’s pool and maybe a nice little run on the trail if it is not to cold. See if my legs have recovered from the Disney marathon!

Observation of the day: My car needs a brake job badly!

Now that I have finished the Disney Marathon. I can start to focus on some good ol triathlon training. To get us started I will do a nice short bio on myself to let you have an idea of who I am and why I do this.

I started running in July of 2001. I was at the most unfit stage of my life up to this point. 200+ pounds, waist pushing the seams at 36inches. Out of shape and out of energy.

Then my good friend Jed and I decided to take up running. First run was 3 miles. We "RAN" as hard as we could and promptly collapsed around mile 1. We walked/ran the last 2 miles. Jed finds a website and finds out we should be able to talk to each other as we run. What a concept! Basically we make every mistake possible for runners in the first 6 months, but still manage to run the OUC 1/2 marathon in Orlando and finish. I finish the year at 185 pounds with a waist size of 34.

We then start training for sprint tri's in Clermont in the summer, so we hit the bikes and pool in febuary/march I go from 185 to 165 in a month! waist is back to my old 32 and I feel great. My bud gets into the swim and bike part like a madman and does little running. I do the biking and running with little swimming. We do the first tri and I beat him because my run is stronger. He is very competitive but needs to get focused. Second tri, I beat him again but only by 17 seconds! He went into the run with a 4 minute lead. I ran like crazy to try and beat him and barely succeeded. He is a good goal for me :). Third tri he sits out. I PR'd it and had a great race.

I don't plan on anymore tri's after that and focus on Disney.

I do the Disney 10k as a test race and run it the fastest I have ever run in a race up to this point.

I focus on the Disney Marathon and run it in 4hrs and 11mins! Not bad for a first marathon.

Now I am starting to get focused on this years triathlons coming up. If you choose you can come along for the ride!
