I revamped my workout schedule and now have a better focus on what I need to do. The only thing left to get on my bike is the aerobars and I may just go down to Bike Route and get them there for $112, or I may order them from John Cobb’s Bicycle Sports. They have them for $89 with $6.50 for shipping. The new shoes and pedals work great! I have put in several hours with the new bike with all the goodies and thoroughly enjoy it.

One thing I notice in this sport is you are in a constant state of repurchase. I am almost to the point of having to buy new shoes again; they are starting to give the telltale signs of wear. I have had them since last October and put in well over the recommended 500 miles on them. I have put at least 150 on them since Disney alone.

Another observation is the strength training is helping tremendously! I have more energy left when I get done these longer hauls (that is going to be put to the test here soon). This last week I have not been able to get in a good swim or workout because of spring break. All the University’s facilities are either closed or on limited hours that do not correspond to my work hours.

Starting Monday I will be able to swim in the mornings at the Florida pool for 45 mins in the morning and then try to hit the pool again at night. I also am trying to get one of my neighborhood apartment complexes to allow me to use their lap pool. That would be very convenient.

Some quick observations:

1: Swim is improving greatly but still is my limiter.
2: Bike has improved to where it was last year when I stopped to focus on the Disney marathon. I can see some great times coming in the bike portion during this years sprints at Clermont.
3: Run is holding steady. One change is I now run for total time not total miles. Seems like it wouldn’t matter but I really am more relaxed running for a given time versus a given mile goal. I don’t find myself looking at the watch every 5 mins to see if I am on pace. This is just base building time and my pace I feel is not as critical as just getting the time in. Also allows me to run around the area, go down streets I avoided for lack of mile knowledge on them. Lol
4: Nutrition is a hell of a lot better then it was last year but could stand more improvement. I have almost eliminated soda from my diet all together (that was a very tough battle) it is the same thing with potato chips. My one major weakness at the moment is cookies for some reason I can’t avoid a good helping of Oreo’s before bed 2-3x’s a week.

I am working on a new page to show all the people who are supporting my bid for Florida Ironman. Hope to have it up this weekend.

I am also setting a goal of keeping this blog up to date.
