Today was a rest day and I did no training, but Sunday I broke in my new bike with Jed my friend from Orlando. We started with a good meal in the morning and then headed for the trail near my place. The trail is about 5-6 miles from my house and once we got there we stretched and headed out.

It was a gorgeous day! Cloudless skies with just a hint of a breeze. The temperature was just right for a good endurance ride.
When we hit the hill section my bike shifted smoothly and I was able to go up the hills no problem, the flat straights after that section was a nice comfortable ride. We stopped at the local port-a-potty for a stretch (still hurting a bit from those lifecycles) and headed the rest of the way to the end of the trail. Mile 15 is the end and we stopped while I ate a gel and then we headed back at a good clip.

One section we had agreed to “open it up” a bit. I got the jump on Jed cause his bike didn’t get into gear fast enough, I counted up to seven on my gear changes and powered it out figuring he couldn’t catch me now, oops!! I have a 27 speed now not a 21 speed and Jed passed me in his highest gear! I still had two to go and couldn’t catch back up to him hehe.

He said he hit 30 I figure I hit at least 25. We kept a higher pace on the way home and made good time. It turned out to be around 46 miles total for the day at a 15.8 avg. followed by a good run around the block to get our running legs back. A good workout and test run for the bike.

Speaking of which here is my bike review of my new Specialized Allez Sport Bike. This bike is brand new put together here in Gainesville by Chain Reaction, I would have a link here but they do not have their website up and running yet (come on guys!) They did an excellent job at assembling it. The bike shifts smooth and I never missed a gear from slippage (unlike my poor mountain bike) It road nice and smooth and the bumps on the trail never really bothered me thanks to the carbon fork, seat post and handlebar shaft. (Jed can testify to this as we switched bikes for a few miles) (his sucks on the bumps hehe)

The seat was comfortable and the handlebars also gave lots of choices for hand positions. I was really impressed overall and expected less for the money I spent and am really happy that it turned out to be such a nice experience!! I highly recommend this bike to anyone who wants a new bike and wants to keep the price under $1000.

Well tomorrow is another one of my days of from work that I have to go to work on (damn it), but I still will get in a swim and weight workout at least, I want to get a bike in also but we will see.

My district manager said he got $75 so far for my Ironman and will be faxing my letter to the other stores in his district (9 total). Hopefully that will generate a good chunk of the money needed for the IM Florida!

My mother in-law gave me a check for $28 and that is a lot for the amount she makes and I really appreciate it. I will be updating the amount that I need on the left tomorrow.
